The survival of humanity today depends on plants. They use their brain activity in a way that we don't fully understand. It is known that when approached with scissors near tomatoes, they make sounds similar to screams. They also suffer, help each other, or foretell impending disaster. Plants are living things that can survive by adapting to environmental conditions. They can solve their problems, but they can do it in different ways than humans and in a much longer time. Trees living in the forest can increase their height by meters in a few centuries by fighting each other to catch more light. Plants can communicate, remember, or manipulate other species. There is both cooperation and sharing of water for the survival of the other plant, but there is also war and competition to the death. [From the Book]
